I was going to ask the author about this but thought maybe it apllies to all vero board layouts.
My question is does it matter which way I wire the pots, I can't tell if they are shown shaft
facing you or shaft facing down in the layout in the link. Would it make any difference?

I wired mine as though the shaft was pointing down so we are looking at the back of
the pots and it seems to work OK.

if the pot works in the wrong direction, then change the outer two wires.

I probed a pedal for hours once, pulling components and testing until i realised that the pot was wired backwards meaning that cranked up was actually cranked down!
Try a little tenderness.

I think you got it the right way. Looking at the layout that's the way that looks right to me.
