Whenever I finish a build I want to test it immediately. I usually rig up a battery and two jacks with a bunch of alligator clips to give it a test drive, while the paint dries on the enclosure. It usually crackles whenever I touch a knob or move my guitar cable.

Today a built a very simple solution using an altoids tin. I mounted both jacks and a battery connector (input plug switches the battery) with sockets for signal in, signal out, ground and +9V. Now I can quickly plug in any new circuit using just four wires. I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but it really save time and headaches.

For testing my perf board builds I've rigged up some breadboard with jacks perm connected on the tie-posts, power supply perm connected and by using the pots that have the pin type lugs that will connect into breadboard, I dont need to solder-up pots until I'm happy everything work and the pot values are best choice.  This option is very flexible as I can easily try things in-front or after the perf board i'm working on just by popping the in and out leads in the breadboard.

Cheers,
Nick,
