Guyatone VT2 Vintage Tremolo

For those who own a Guyatone VT2, i need to ask some questions :

1. It somewhat distort if i place it after my preamp section (effect loop). Is it because of the hot output from the preamp ?
2. I think the 'Tremolo' mode is cutting down the volume a little bit, compared to the 'bypass' mode. Is it right ?
