Have you built the Leslie sim on GGG?

Hi all,

Searched the forum in vain for anyone owning up to building the Leslie sim on GGG except for 1978 (you still around???) in his bit on this post :

I'm sure the Neovibe and Easy Vibe have more to offer, but I like the look of it's relative simplicity, and it looks a bit easier for my weapons of choice - perf or vero.

Anyone done either of these on perf or vero, or got any comments/things to suggest? (besides ditching the quaint bypassing maybe...though it is it cute...)

Well , i prototyped this schematics some while ago.
and ws able to make it work with common transistors.
2n3904 and j201 for the fet. But i did not builted the opto thing on the top
of the schematics.(used for bypass )

My impression of the sound it produced...
my version sounded a lot like a phaser ran at fast speed.
I think i could reproduce the same thing with my phase90.
It did not replicate the leslie ,or mostly appreciable, UNIVIBE type of sound.
Also the impression of having an tweeter and bass speaker rotation
is not felt. That can be heard when the treble portion does not attenuate
the same way as the bass sounds. Anyway that's how i explain it.

You also have lots of variation of the span (or sweep of filter effect) when changing the speed
of the effect. That is due to the circuit beeing not having enough gain to keep amplitude
stable. That maybe due to the transistor i used?

So i guess it depends of the type of sound you are seeking for.

I prototyped this a few yrs ago. Check out the "Phozer" soundclips at runoffgroove. It sounds pretty similar, if not identical. It's kind of an automatic wah kind of sound. Reminds me of "Crimson & Clover" or "That Joke isn't funny anymore" (smiths). Those sounds were generated differently (wahs, tremolos, delays, etc) but the leslie-sim/phozer has that same psychedelic bubbly feel IMO.

Thanks for that Christian and Doug_H.
I'll have a go at it sometime soon, and probably cut out the lamp/ldr bypassing, though I do like it because it's so different...
I'll post my results.

I like the Leslie Sim although I confess not knowing what to do with it, control-wise.  Everything seems to be in the "accent" knob, and its modulation by the weight control.  I can get a nice "hard" vibrato, which is more musically useful, but there's also the "shimmering, bubbly or out of sight!" space noises--filtered choppy tremolo with the bandpass filtering (kind of a vocal, wah-ish sound), and even a tone generator (kinda theremin-y).
I'm using it with guitar--I bet an organ would sound more "leslie"-ish.

I used NTE85 as replacements for Q1, 3, and 4.  Couldn't find a reverse audio pot so that's out too.  Finally, I left out the transformer and just put it at 9v.  Not sure exactly what difference it would make, tone-wise.

The lamp/ldr bypassing is a cool, sort of ridiculous idea.
