I was hoping to get some reccommendations on some IC op amps. I'm going out tomorrow to shop a little and was thinking of playing with some but wasn't sure of which to get. So, if you want to throw out a reccomendation for one and maybe what their uses it would be appreciated. I keep hearing about this 386 IC and it peaked my interest. Thanks in advance.

The LM386 chip is NOT an opamp. It's a small poweramp, capable of driving a speaker. You can not use the LM386 where an opamp is required. However, the LM386 is popular for use in small practice amps and some overdrive designs.

The choice of opamp is usually not too critical in guitar effects. Probably the most commonly used opamp is the TL072. The 4558 is also quite popular.

Thanks. I'm new to world of IC's as I've spent what little time as a member studying the basics of electronics. It's much appreciated. Learning is a friend.  :icon_biggrin:
