Is it possible to measure the gain of a J201 using one of the circuits at GEOFEX? (and if so, which one?)
My Dr. Boogey sounds amazing, but the variation and 'heaviness' in the gain differs based on what I have in it.
Not to mention, I'd like to be able to have a LITTLE bit of consistency per pedal.

Thanks guys,

consistency with fets.   You need to find the one that you like and measure it then measure every one of the fets you have and pick the ones you want.

FWIW when I pick a FET for a condenser microphone build circuit, I often only find maybe 4 out of 100 even from the same batch(this is from a bag of 1000 of the same batch)  I use more than one measurement.

Now there are things that you can do to make a fet "work" in a circuit but the input and/or output headroom changes the output Z can change gain change etc.

There are good FET write ups on the web.  A search engine can be your friend.

if it's the same as matching, this is in the layout gallery.

Hope that helps

This is a good point. I guess we should start posting our values for our FETs.

measure IDSS at the voltage the fet is used at as a start.  Then note the brand and date code if any.
