....to go in your 'n00bs ask too many silly questions' book.

The Proco Rat that I'm building...everything is wired and more or less in the box...I don't wanna screw it all shut until I'm sure it works...

Here's the schematic/vero layout...

can i test it with my Boss wall wart? I mean, it should be able to handle 300mA of power, right? The reason I ask is cuz I don't have any 9v around currently and I desperately want to try it out, and it's got the power jack soldered in and everything.

Is that a go or a no no? From what I've read, it's not good to do your first powerup with a wall-wart.

wow...nevermind. I found a 9v in an old toy of my brother's, hooked the rat up, and it works beautifully. Love it.

Thanks for all the help and putting up with my nonsense, guys.

Hey, congratulations.
Which op amp you go with?

Congrats!

BTW there are no silly questions but there are silly non-descriptive thread titles. ;)

Thanks, all.

I used an LM308N, it works amazingly well. It's a really high-gain circuit altogether, I built it for my guitarist, and he loves it. The last thing I need to do is get a power jack and get it all secured in the box...as of now, it's all sorta hanging loose cuz I wanted to test before I glued the circuitboard in place. I'm using an old two-way footswitch from a broken amp my friend has for the casing, and it worked great. The best part is that the sides are a rubber/plastic deal, which my dremel made holes in really easy, so I don't have to isolate the power jack or anything. I mounted the pots on the back, since it's one of those trapezoid sorta shapes, and it looks pretty sweet. I'll get pics up after I put it all together.

I ended up using a CA3130 in mine. It's another externally compensated opamp type.

The PS can be capable of putting out many times the amount of current the circuit will draw. T
The circuit will always determines the amount of current drawn.
The problem is if you try to draw more current than a PS can output.
