Hey guys,

I just built the Orange squeezer with the layout at general guitar gadgets.
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/orangesqueezer_lo.gif
The sound comes out fine, but theres no noticable compression.
Here's the voltage readings:

Power source: 9.67 volts

Q1
D:9.67
S:2.68
G:2.03

Q2
D:1.27
S:2.03
G:0

IC1 (using the compression opamp project http://www.diystompboxes.com/analogalchemy/misc/diodeopamp.html)
Pin 1:0
Pin 2:0
Pin 3:0
Pin 4:0 (ground)
Pin 5:6.94 (in+)
Pin 6:7.09 (in-)
Pin 7:6.93 (out)
Pin 8:9.67 (+9v)

From what I can tell, all these values seem normal.
In case anyone's interested, opamp tranny values:
Q1 (2N5087):
C:.77
B:6.95
E:7.85

Q2 (2N5087):
C:.13
B:7.09
E:7.85

Q3 (2N5089):
C:6.95
B:1.2
E:.61

I'm a little confused here: shouldn't q1 and q2 have the same values?

Just so everyone is clear, the volume pot works fine, and the bias pot serves to turn the sound on or off. When maxed out, the pedal is a teensy bit over unity gain.
I think I'm gonna try using a different diode (im using a NOS germanium workalike of the 1n34a from SB) and if that doesnt work, ill try swapping out my homemade IC with a 4558.

Thanks for your help!

Looking at the diode-compression op amp project, i realize that it says to adjust the 6.8k resistor until you get a 4.5volt reading on the output collector. right now mine reads at about 7 volts. I'll have to get on that.

Can i use a single op-amp for this project? according to the first layout at tonepad, its only using one half of a 4558 op-amp, but the second layout has pins 1-2 connected, and pin 3 grounded. need i worry about this? changing the diode did not help, btw

I replaced my home-built opamp with a 4559. now its much louder. i'm still not sure about the compression.

ok. its official. its working  ;D

gradual volume increase, flat response, longer sustain. subtle, but it works  :icon_lol:

thanks for the help tennisdude :)
