Hi everybody,

I ve made a fuzz face with an AC187/01 (NPN) so the ground is negative. When I plugged it in  I heard no sound at all.. actually nothing.
I don't know exactly the pinout of this transistor so may be I connected it the wrong way, I just suposed that the base is the middle pin but I don't know what are the collector and emiter, could this be the cause of my problem... and could I have burnt it ??

Thank you !!

Thanks Aron
I guess the package shown in the pdf you suggested  is t01.. mines are x04 (recatangles with a hole in the upper side).. So  I don't know.. I guess theese transistors are very unusual cos I can't fin a datasheet for them..

It sounds to me that you are using germanium power output transistors. And they have no gain. The germanium transistors that you need are the little round ones that are t01's.
Like the ones in ancient 6 transistor am radios.

Well... I don't know.. I found that the Euthymia Electronics' Crucible Fuzz GE  (http://www.euthymia.org/Pedals/CrucibleGE/)  uses it..
This is the description:

AC187-01 NPN 15V 2A 1MHz Hfe100 (X04)

There is a little dent in the case on the collector side.

Good luck!

Thanks !!!

I've finished the effect and it works !! but it has a lot of gain, Im afraid it sounds more like a big muff than a fuzz face.. I like it anyway.
I've measured the hfe and it is almost 350. My question is, is there any way I can lower the gain a little bit ?

Thanks a lot !
