Flatline compressor

HI ,I just finished buildin my flatline compressor.Sustain pot is acting weird.When I rotate it clockwise from 0 to full,results:3/4 of rotation,no audible effect.When that pot is nearly at max position compression effect comes out,but the pot kind of switches the effect on when rotated nearly to full position.The outcoming signal is also a bit low if the sustain pot isn't at its maximum
                            I used VTL5C2 and 1N34A diodes,TL072 opamp.I didn't substitute any parts on that schematic by John Hollis

I built one with a "home made" LED/LDR and it works very well.
I would re-check all you connections, the comp is not "that obvious" on mine 'til
about half rotation ... but its definately there !
It has a wicked output boost too ... something's not right ...
Search for "flatline" and take a look at the stripboard layout, it's what I used and
you should compare it to what you have/schematic
