Loop effect in a box? (like cd-players)

Some CD players have a loop button wich repeats a part on and on as long as you push it. In most cases you can set the time and speed of the part wich is repeated.
I guess it's a delay with a momentary switch that blocks the normal signal while it is active or something like that. I think this could sound great.
