So here I am trying to make my first circuit from scratch.  I'm using a 2n9304 transistor.  I just want a volume boost.  Don't care about tone for now, I'm just trying to work out the basics.

Thanks

If you have not checked out Dragonfly's Booster Bar you should. You will get plenty of ideas there, I mean here:http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album18

search for Rangemaster or LPB. You'll find lots.

The best advice I could give would be to build the beginner project here. It's not the simplest, but it's not far off.

No i mean just like PURE boost, to breadboard.  I've been trying to make my own from scratch, but it hasn't been working.  I've already made a rangemaster, I'm just looking for something really simple to breadboard.  Like no frills at all, just a boost.  No tone or gain controls, just the boost.

Whats wrong w/ that?  It works, but its quieter than the unmodified signal.  Am I just using a bad transistor?  I tried a few.  Is it just biased badly?

Thanks

the simplest boost is tim escobedos boost o rama heres a link. oh and it actually sounds good too. what a bonus huh. scroll down alil' and your golden.

The LPB is really easy and good. There are lots of layouts for it too.

Vero: http://aronnelson.com/gallery/album18/EH_LPB_BOOST_VERO
They use some different component values but both should work.

Then there's The Utility boost.

You have no bias on the transistor and also you need input and output caps to prevent the dc to "escape" the circuit.

Add a 560K resistor from +9v to the transistor base and 100nf caps at the input and the output.

Do a search on transistor amplifier stage or something like that

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

That's the page I wanted to link to, but couldn't find...
