hey guys.  i just "finished" my bsiab build.  i used nte458's instead of the j201's  because that is what my local shop had.

here is the layout i am following:
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/bsiab_2_lo.gif

as i understand it, the pins are d-g-s if you are looking at the flat side, pins down, right? the layout calls for d-s-g, so i had to move the pins a bit to swap the s and g around.  is this right?

i am not getting any sound when engaging the pedal, as though i have the transistors in wrong.

soldering is good, wiring is good, caps are properly positioned, etc.

anyone have a suggestion?

My last build was a BSIAB II and I had some trouble getting it to fire initially.

Check the voltages at you FETs,  the voltages at GGG are in the ballpark (you won't be right on them but should be in the ballpark.)

I ended up troubleshooting mine with an audio probe.

cool.  i have a gig down in mobile tonight, so i will check everything sunday morning.  does the whole pin out thing sound right to you?

It's probably a pinout thing. I think the NTE transistors have the pinout on the bag, don't they?
I'm interested to hear how the NTE458 sounds compared to the J201. If anyone has tried those in the circuit, chime in.

Your pinout analysis looks correct based on the datasheets I can find.

Connoisseur of Distortion

after several builds with the NTE458, i have started to dislike it. It has a very strong tendency to hit a rail, and distort in an ugly fashion. i MUCH prefer J201s.

I am looking at a GGG brand new board right now that I received yesterday. (Thanks again JP), I am waiting for Mouser to deliver to parts. I used the part number sheet on the site.  I am iching to get started.

I am interested NAG in what you find out, and how it went.

I have already have a Killer Marshall in a box pedal: V-Staack. I wonder how different this one sounds compared.
