hello, I've been bitten by the pedal modding bug. :icon_cool:

I am interested in experimenting with different diodes to make different distortion textures.

anyone know anything about zener diodes?

and, the clipping differences between different colored leds? including ir and uv?

Hello!

Check out the FAQ:

http://www.diystompboxes.com/cnews/FAQ.html

Diodes do make a difference but EQ on a pedal probably makes much more difference and the type of clipping section affects the pedal even more.

Anyway, good luck on your pedals.

The preferred LED is red since they tend to clip at a lower voltage.  No one has, as yet, commented on the various forward voltages of colours other than red, green or amber, so there isn't much to say other than red is the more practical of those 3 colours.

As noted, though, you need look no farther than the FAQ and a search on diodes and distortion/clipping in the archives to keep yourself busy until 2007.
