I was given a Boss DS-1, when bypassed it goes strait through perfectly but when enabled it drops to ridiculusly low volumes that can only be heard when i go right next to my amp. Anybody have any ideas how to help?

I had a DS-1 once where the capacitor C9 looked good but one of the leads was no longer soldered on. I just had to reheat the connections.

Sometimes you can use the buzz method to find out where the signal dies.
If you get a big buzz through the amp when you touch R14 leads then probably the tone circuit and the volume circuit and the Q3 transistor are ok.
If you get a big buzz through the amp when you touch C5 leads then probably the IC is ok
If you get a big buzz through the amp when you touch C3 leads then probably the Q2 is ok

then it's tricky, Q7 and Q8 have to work to send the straight signal through to the output (so your Q1 and Q3 must be ok because you were getting output)
Q6 has to conduct the send the signal through the distortion part of the circuit, if you temporary connect the junction or C2 and R4 to the junction of R5 and C3 it would jump over Q6 and tell you that Q6 was or was not a problem, maybe...

Well, good luck with it, thats all the help I'm good for unfortunately.
