Hi all,

Yes, I like the JFet Vulcan a lot, but I didn´t knew the BlackFire... this is a MONSTER!!

Last night I recorded a little sound sample of it.

guitar (N2) -> BlackFire (Low Gain mod 2M2/100pF) -> Yamaha Delay -> Computer (Marshall Sim - Clean)

Sorry about the performance... I wasn´t hearing during recording (it was like a blind recording).

I like lower gain pedals but BlackFire Rocks!!!!

Hmmm I don´t think so.. the file is rated as public.. I can hear it in my PC.
The link should redirect you to a dowload page, so, "save target as" doesn´t work at all.
Let me know if you can hear it...

I had to start an account.  It's very straightforward and took only a couple of minutes.  I gave them my 'spam' email address just in case.   :)

Nuno, you can hear it because you set up an account to upload it.  Right?

I logged off to try that, but maybe my ip was still logged, or I was automaticaly athenticated with session variables or cookies.

I don´t have another available webspace to put the sample.
Sorry about that. Anyway, it´s a good web space.

sounds pretty good, but it's a bit boomy for my taste... the palm muting is all whump, no bite.

Yes I know it is not very defined. It sounds a lot better through my Marshall EL34 power amp (4x12celestion).
In the sound clip I think it´s very visible the character of the marshall *simulation*. It works pretty well with clean sounds (the sim), but the distorted sounds doesn´t  sound really good through the clean chanel. Definitly, not a tube amp.
But I think it gives a touch of the gain and responsiveness you can get with this pedal.

Edit:
Yes, It´s different from the sample posted by MartyMart but I had very different results with various amps and other guitars. That´s why this subject is not easy. What sounds good to me may not sound good to other people (Nothing personal Marty ;) ). In fact, This sound sample is the result of a variety of factors. Some, are not very good (like the strings I had on the guitar - really old, the amp sim, and the 8v battery powering it).
I really like it... I never thought of playing with such a high gain overdrive (sice 16 years old). That´s what happened tonight. Some people talked to me about that - "Wow, so much distortion!" - I don´t know if it is good but I liked it a lot!!!. Remembers me my ADA MP-1 from that old days playing metallica, iron mayden and stuff!!!

Sounds nice 'n Fat to me, lost some "bite" along the way .... mp3's are a funny beast
some sound great and others are nothing like the amp/sim in the "room" when you play !!
I dont have nearly that much low end going on though !!
Did you roll off some top end with a cap or on the amp etc ?

Whoa..  That thing sounds nasty!  Really good job on both soundclips.  I've been looking for something that is really nast sounding.  It's hard to judge from soundclips though on what to build, like Marty said.

Does anybody have a sound clip with a wah?  I find the Blackfire is very responsive to both adjustments of the guitar tone control and a wah placed before it.  Moreso than a lot of pedals, and in some respects a more persuasive demonstration of why this is an excellent design and worthwhile build.

Yes, I realized I cut a lot of highs on the amp simulation. My PC speakers are very small and sound really bright. So I needed to darken the sound a little in order to make it sound better. Through headphones it sounds a bit boomy  - You´re right.
