Hi ! Im looking for a clean solidstate preamp with full control (bass mid treble) can you guys suggest me something ?

Thanks

Mark Hammer

There are two kinds of preamps: those that get the signal ready to feed into an input jack of a full (preamp+power stage) amplifier, and those that prepare the signal to feed a power amp directly.  They are not always completely different but can have some significant differences.  Which one are you interested in?

Thanks mark

I think i need the one that are ready for driving a power stage level.

If you can get a hold of the schematic for a Champ25se, that is an excellent sounding clean preamp (the dirty channel is something else entirely.  IIRC, it's pretty similar to a BF/SF preamp done in IC opamp, with a bipolar supply.  It shouldn't be very hard to do as a standalone DIY preamp, once you cut the dirty channel and remote switching stuff out.  But be advised: this is not like a tube clean amp that dirties up as you crank it.  It is just crystal clean, right up to the top.  That amp sounded amazing with a decent digital delay/reverb/chorus in the fx loop.

We are working on designing a preamp exactly like you want over at ssguitar.com!  Its not done by any means though.
Life is what you make it.

Here's a circuit http://sound.westhost.com/project27.htm
Nice, simple preamp, dual power supply though.

fikri:  I used to have it, but lost it in a hard drive crash.  I also think that Fender no longer poosts it, because they stopped making that amp more than 10 years ago.  But it should be out there on the web somewhere.  If not, ask at Ampage, which is where I originally got it from a very nice amp tech named Chris in the Netherlands.

Edit:  Take a look at this:

--the part of the preamp built around U2A & U2B--i.e. the clean preamp, without the dirty channel, channel switching, or reverb.  Come to think of it, that is a lot like the ROG Tonemender (http://www.runoffgroove.com/tonemender.html), but the bipolar supply may be better suited for preamp use.

Hey RD, I think I missed the thread if you posted it on forum, what is this preamp thing and how's it sound?

I never did a thread, and I haven't built it as yet. I've not been in shape for it of late. It should work as drawn because I just sort of copied it and simplified it a bit. Switchable diodes should provide fake channel switching.

And it's a derivative of... what? I don't think I noticed if it was noted. And I'm too darn lazy to spectate or simulate the circuit to find out what sounds it exhales. Is that part of your big SS amp project?

This w/out the bright switch and with a Marshall tonestack. It's the one mentioned above.

Oh yea, it did seem a bit familiar. I was thinking of building that amp a year ago but never got to it.
