Hi! :)

Happy Easter to everyone!

Anyways, this is continued from the topic called Anyone know any mods for a boss ds-2 dist.

So this is what i've done:

Schematic with parts marked in colors -> here

C41 is changed to 47nF
D9 and D8 are put into place of D14 and D15, while on the spots of D9 and D8 are red 3mm leds now.
R55 is now 100k, but it doesn't do much to the tone
C34 is 10nF now

And here are the soundclips:
Generally i played the same thing on both mike recordings, so you could hear clear differences between the Sm57 and 421. There is NO eq on the tracks, no normalisation, no compression, no reverb or anything added, so it's bare to the bone.

Strat type guitar with JB in bridge -> ds-2 (level 3 o'clock, tone 12:30, dist -all the way, non turbo) -> DIY orange clone (bass all the way, treble 2 o'clock, presence in treblish position) -> Oversized 2x12" v30s cabinet.
Strings are .013-.056 set

recorded with SM57 into the onboard soundcard (i know, it's lame):

tuned to C:
dragonaut.mp3 (1.9mb - from the band Sleep, abridged version)
chords (hof).mp3 (884kb - from High on Fire tune, couple of phrases)

tuned to dropped C#:
begin to feel (cc).mp3 (1.6mb - from my band Crop Circle, couple of phrases)

recorded with Senheiser MD421 into onboard soundcard:

tuned to C:
dragonaut2.mp3 (1.9mb - generally the same thing mentioned as above)
chords2 (hof) (1mb - as with 57)

Tuned to dropped C#:
begin to feel2 (cc).mp3 (1.7mb - as with 57)
solo & x 2.mp3 (1.9mb - some solo work with riffs later)

If you're saving your monthly bandwidth or generally don't like downloading tons of files, i recommend listening to the 421 recordings, they sound just so much better and more like the sound from the speakers itself.

All this recordings would benefit from 5db boost at 5kHz (or similiar "presence" boost) but i refused to eq the tracks since the whole idea was to record how it sounds without any processing... semi/pro soundcard with preamps would probably solve most of the recording problems, but since there's nothing better around, i did it this way...

I'm curious about the R32 mid scoop mod, i would like to have more mids too, maybe i'll try that one later ;)

I see that the in the turbo mode that resistor is shunted... interesting heheh

ps: i'm sorry for sloppy playing ;)

Later today i came to very disturbing news.

That bridge pickup is actually bad, only one coil is active, and the other one is.. i don't know, it's cancelling some frequencies and stuff... dunno how i didn't figure that before..

I took it out, i have to put another pickup and retest it later..

heh.
