VOX WAH 847 DROP-IN WAH WAH

i used a 2N5089 instead of MPSA18. the original is MPSA18.i can't find MPSA18 transistor here in the phillipines so i tried to replace it 2N5089. and instead of 500mH inductor i used 68mH inductor that i've got in an old component.could anyone help me....?

put the original inductor back. that one you got is useless. unless its in a radio.

if youre still getting nothing, put the original transistor back.

if you get wah going, youre good.

i think youre on the right foot, just in the wrong direction.

time to buy some parts, and buy from someone who ships to the phillipines.

well thank you for welcoming me. actually i don't have any of this original parts.this is my first time to build a pedal effect.there is no available 500mH inductor here in the phillipines.so that's why i used to take some parts from the old component just to test if this project really works. the 68mH inductor is very very low value.what if im goin to rewind the coil to make it 500mH? and all i have to do is to use the ferite core of the 68mH inductor to make it a 500mH.is this posible? and i've read from the other forum that 2N5089 is a perfect replacement for MPSA18. is this true? im so sorry if i have so many questions... by the way, where you from?

i think you should consider ordering parts online, from overseas. im not saying that you cant wind your own inductor, it would just be easier and less frustrating.

but, if you understand how to do it, by all means, do it! nothing as self satisfactory as learning to do something by your very own! 

and yes, it is a good replacement transistor. there are others that work too (most times, better), such as the commonly used BC109 transistors. although, i know of an even better one!

i will try to wind a inductor.but if ever i failed to do one,could you buy me a halo inductor?  i will just pay it to you via FEDEX? i don't know how to order online.i don't have credit card.  i think the value of my inductor is very low that's why i only have a clean tone.am i right?

there are lots of inductor makers. you may find yourself making a decent inductor. how did you get this "drop in"?

actually, i joined this forum to keep my mind and habits off of purchasing on ebay. i spent well over 15 thousand within a matter of months, and by the end of that, i KNEW it was time to call it quits, but i needed to keep my mind busy in the mean while. so here i am! i dont build anything, i just mod alot of stuff. but WAHS are my true passion/fetish.

i just searching some sites that related to DIY effects.and download the PDF of vox 847 wah. actually i have a band and i want to use a wah pedal. i love to build electronics project instead of buying brand new. how old are you sir?  and what is your work?

my work is primarily wahs. ill take any wah, retro fit them, and rock out as any other metal head would do!

ive got alot of vintage NOS parts no one else has. im thinking about selling my services, or just waiting along time and selling them down the road.

(regardless of the mojo, tropical fish capacitors still do the trick!)

i dont have any layouts for Twin T circuits (inductorless), but im very positive if you look around, you can find lots of them.

how long have you been doing this? ive been tinkering with stuff for around 8 years, but never built anything.
