Hi guys,
I recently got into the world of analog pedals, always been usign a BOSS gt-8 through a Laney ck80 keyboard amp, then my good friend introduced me to the world of boutique ;Drool but CACHING!!!!
Cant afford anything that i like,so i thought hmm can i make one :icon_lol:,am a studying engineer so soldering instrumentation and design are not topics new to me,but this would probably be more complex that most projects i have attempted before.
I use an Ibanez RG-1550(maple) with EVOS on the neck and bridge.I play a lotta stuff ranging from fusion,80rock,metal etc but mostly instrumental stuff.I love tones of players like Vai,Satriani,Vinnie Moore,Alex  Skolnick,John Petrucci.
Since I have a keyboard amp,I will need to build a pre amp first(thats right i cant afford a real amp right now :icon_mrgreen:I do get all components for DIY free so no cost there, and i can make the pedal in my lab.)I was thinking of building the Don Tillman FET preamp.Do you guys have any suggestions for a preamp and other pedals based on the kind of tones I like??
I was planning to start off with the beginner project and then slowly move on,then make the preamp and then some nice high gain distortion pedals ::)
any suggestions for the same?? ;Dthanks

I would say that that Laney amp is a perfect opportunity to use some of the Fet based preamp/distortion pedals that the geniuses over at www.runoffgroove.com have developed, and that we at DIYS have been talking about at great length for a while.  For your uses I would check out the Uno, which is essentially a jfet version of a Mesa Boogie Mk I preamp.  Others on this site have come up with many different preamp designs, but I'd start over at ROG cause they kinda set the standard for those pedals over there.

My cousin has a GK bass amp with a single 15" spkr and he has become obsessed with using my "english channel" (a ROG designed Vox emulator) with it.  I haven't heard it, but he won't give my pedal back.

BTW, your best friend here is the serch function at the top of the page.  I have spent hours culling thru previous posts myself.  However, right now it is not working.
