I ran across this and tried it this weekend.  Very cool!  It's like getting a free (well, for the price of a switch) fuzz.  Since I already had an Octavia built, I just put in a dpdt to switch the transformer-plus-diodes in or out of the circuit.  It really is an attack-dependent fuzz and sounds great.  Of course I had to play around with various trannies and finally ended up using germs for Q2 and Q3.  Different from the Foxx Tone Machine.  This is definitely a cool mod to the stock Octavia.  Makes me wonder if Roger Mayer had done anything like this for JH's rig.
