Hey guys...

I'm interested in buying a mesa dual rectifier head... These things are expensive as it is over here in the UK so I'd rather not buy the cab if I can get away with it as I already have a marshall 4x12 1960A cab....

I was looking at the specs and I noticed that there is a speaker difference between the 2 cabs:

The Mesa one uses V30s and the Marshall uses G12T-75s

I was wondering, If i swapped the speakers in my marshall for V30s would I essentially have the right cab for the head I'm about to buy?

Thanks...

Speakers are a preference thing and either will work.  The main thing is to have the amp impedance selctor set to match the cab.  As far as the speakers you mentioned the V30's have a more pronounced midrange where the T-75's have more of a scooped sound.  For what its worth if you are buying replacement speakers for a cab they usually cost more than used cab.  I would try out what you already have I think it will work just fine.

for metal there is no better cab than a good sounding marshall.  And by good sounding i mean 1960, not the valvestate ones.  The mode fours sound pretty good too.

metal needs scoop? huh?

I play a very high gain setup, but i use lots of mids, quite a bit of treble, and reduced bass. it brings out that bite, and lessens the 'whumping' after palm mutes. Makes for cleaner playing, if you follow...

as for the cab... if it has a useable impedence, and it can handle the wattage, try it out.
