I was going to wait until I had finished working on these boosters before reporting, but today I got some interesting results. I've built the lbp-1, mini, mosfet, and a fetzer valve. I've also put together a Baxandall tone stack and both versions of the AMZ presence control. The tone controls are working fine and I've made them bypassable. Instead of having boosters and separate treble boosters, I'm trying to make these ones do double duty.

So I'm working on eliminating the volume drop when engaging the tone.  Instead of just flipping in different caps, I'm probably going to stick with the idea of adding even more boost after the tone knobs. Not much more, just enough to raise the volume a tiny bit.

That's what the fetzer valve is for. I put it at the end of the mini, after the tone. I figured one more JFET can't be bad.
I have to work on taming the signal going in to the fetzer, but as is stands right now with everything on the thing is raging. I figured as much - the mini is a monster. There's no volume drop anyway.

But what I did not expect is the gating effect. Hit the strings - big punch. Hold 'em - silence.

Pretty cool.             Not the right thing for a solo, but anyway . . .

sounds like a bias issue...check the bias and find the stage that is gating,
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
