I am finishing my Dr. Boogey and as yet it sounds just great for the one who is going to use it (Q1 MPF102, rest J201 biased at 5.5V). Now I want to have some "more" sounds from it, something like a volume boost / solo boost.

Anyone knows a nice mod to preform on this unit??

  Can't say, cause I don't have DB.
Add another gain stage, or cut some gain from it VIA footswitch for more control.
Try another volume control on a switch with the volume control, or other method to reduce/increase output attenuation.
I could go look up Dr. Boogey and get ideas I suppose, but I'm just plain 'ol lazy.

Yes, why didn't I think about that......

Something else..... I read somewhere you could 1/2 the gain by putting a 1M resistor parrallel to the gain pot. How do I put a resistor parrallel to a pot?

you could also use a switch to change the resistance on the source of a FET... change the bias, you'll definitely note a difference.

sorry, but you'll have to experiment. i have no info!

Instead of another gain stage you might replace Q1 with a 2N5457 (more gain) or J201 (most gain) and use the 1/2 gain mod mentioned above.below.

NTE458 I think wins the 'Most Gain in a Jfet' award, that might make you think you want some of them...5457's seem to work good, I use those or the J201's generally

How do I put a resistor parrallel to a pot? I placed a switchable 1M resistor across pin 1 and 3 and nothing happenened

I think what your trying to do here is reduce the signal by using a resistor.  Try putting the R between pin 2 and ground or pin 3 and ground or pin one and ground depending on how you have your pot wired.  One of those will definitely reduce your signal.  You could pick up some noise too depending on how the circuit is buffered....I'm not familiar with the circuit but I have shunted the signal to ground like this before at the pot after the first opamp in a stereo mixer and it worked real good with no noise. But made a lot of noise at the master volume control for the mixer.

I tried a mod that switches a resistor in parallel with the gain pot to theoritically lower the gain. It makes some difference, but it's pretty subtle...

I've just added a trimpot to the output signal; great way of dialing in a second volume setting.

You can make a preset switch that toggles between two knobs set wherever you like. Say two gain knobs. this will give you a high or low gain selection. Make the switch a footwitch and you have two "channels" of gain. This can work for any pot settings really.
