OD 250 and guitar volume clean-up

Hello everyone,
I have been noticing that different types of diodes "clean up" with the guitar volume better in OD 250/dist + type circuits.
In my experiments SI 1n4148 diodes keep their highs when you roll off the guitar volume.
I prefer the sound of GE diodes, but the high end disappears as you roll down your guitar volume.

I have also noticed that the OD 250 "cleans up" with the guitar volume more that the dist + circuit?

I would love to have a OD 250 type circuit that could be clean up as well as a FF.

any thoughts?
