anyone done this themselves?  i read the picture essay on tonepad & decided to order the parts and save some money.  the original chip in my ts9 was the ta7558 chip, and i changed that to the jrc4558d chip, and changed 2 resistors.

anyone tried this? i switched them for fun to compare and they are almost the same.  i think the real difference is in the resistors? i didnt get a chance to do a before and after with the resistors, but changing the chips is almost the same

In this case I would suspect the resistors will make more of a difference than the chip, and that's only if you're using it as a tube amp booster. Be prepared to be underwhelmed with the differences, but that's only a suspicion on my part. YMMV.

The difference is not that big..... when you put two next to each other you'll notice the difference, but when you compare them on the fly you don't notice it.....

Especially on the higher gain settings the differences become aware

anyone tried any other chips they like better than the jrc4558d?

Bernardduur

Isn't any chip better than the 4558??

The 4558 is just the chip that can capture "that" sound; just try. Love the 5532 or an LM308 (single opamp)
