I know Im pointing out the obvious but will it work as a clean preamp, It says bass overdrive.

Just wanna be sure, If it can be used as a preamp then this will be the go I think.

What exactly are you after?  Ampeg (in its various incarnations) made a lot of different amp designs, and while they weere known generaly for their cleans, the eq varied considerably, and some of those amps did have a fair amount of growl in them.  If you could be more specific, maybe some guidance could be offered.

Somthing clean that simulates an SVT type sound to be used as a preamp and EQ with an LM3886 poweramp (I know this is a stompbox website, sorry)
