Amp Gain Boost Footswitch - is this possible?

Basically what I trying to do is this: there's an amp I want to build that has a DPDT mounted on the face for switching on a gain boost stage. It would be a pain to stand by the amp and switch the gain boost on by hand every time. Is there a way to extend it into a footswitch? To me it seems like I should be able to remove the DPDT and connect the wires to some sort of jack, then send a cable to a DPDT in a stompbox. Is this possible or just idiotic? What kind of jack and cable would I use if all six terminals are needed? Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is a moronic request.

You probably would want to do it with a relay so the actual guitar signal doesn't leave the amp.

Yup, a relay and then a momentary switch in the box and in the amp, that way either one can control the relay.
Life is what you make it.

Here's the schematic:

Where would the relay go? And would it need a DC supply? Thanks again.
