Is the Axis Fuzz affected by carbon 9v's like the Dallas Arbiter FuzzFace?

Hi,

I am one of those people that like a carbon film 9V battery in my Ge Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face clones.  I am building a Roger MAyer Axis Fuzz, and was wondering if that circuit is affected by the carbon film vs alkaline 9volt batteries like the FuzzFace tends to be?

Because, I would just use a hammond 1590B aluminum mxr style box, becuase i would just use my voodoolabs power supply. But, if the circuit is affected by a carbon film battery, i will go with a 1590BB box, so that i can put in a Switch volume pot, to turn battery off, instead of unplugging input jack cord, and i will also use a 9v battery drawer for quick access.

thanks for those who can give their 2 cents
:)

BTW, Would i adjust the 22K or the 47K to make sure the Q2 transistors are biased right? Cuz both the 22K and 47K are off the Q2 collector...
I read about reducing the bass/woofiness in the circuit by adjusting the 47K, but i don't know if they were just changing the biasing of the transistor?

*edit*
here is the scheme...

I am not sure if the 470 resistor in the FF is the reason why the circuit is sensible to the battery resistance.
Loking at the circuit I can not find something similar. But I am not an expert. I guess you should breadboard the circuit first and see what happens.

If a fx sounds different with a carbon battery, it's probably a sign that series resistance inside the battery is causing positive feedback coupling between stages in the effect.
Simple two stage transistor amps are particularly prone to this.
I suggest using an alkaline (or a wart) and putting a variable resistor in series with the battery.

Some FX sound better with a carbon battery (f.e. Rangemaster, FF), some sound better with a alkaline bat.
Buy a carbon and a alkaline bat. and find out what sound better for the Axis fuzz, all in all it's a matter of personal taste.

yeah i know some effects are better with carbon and others are better with alkaline.  I was just wondering if this circuit seems to sound better with carbon film, from those that have/built this pedal.  But thanks for the replies ;)

BTW, Paul Perry, I had tried the series resistance 'trick' with my adaptor months ago, as helped by R.G., and for some reason i just didn't like it.  It didn't sound like a carbon battery.  I don't think i did it with the right values though...  :icon_rolleyes:  cuz some people really like that 'mod'.
