hi ,

I build a Rangemaster using tonepads negative ground schematic with oc44 NPN from smallbear and was wondering what the collector reading should be when properly biased.

I have read it should be around -7v for the positive ground schematic but is the negative different.
I am getting ranges of 2.0v to 3.5 v when tweaking the Rb and Re within the proper ranges discussed by geofex.
With Rb set to around 68 and 4.7k for Re the unit sounds good with 3.0v on the collector to ground.

The circuit has no shorts and is working with proper boost. Also have millennium bypass as depicted in tonepad layout
Thanks,

matt

As long as all the polarities are right and we're talking about the schematic I'm thinking about?
The +/- signs on your DMM can basically be disregarded, it's the 'distance' from ground, where the collector sits bias wise in relati
I am getting ranges of 2.0v to 3.5 von to the supply.
This seems 'close' to ground, it should have about a 7volt difference, you are measuring these voltages from the Gnd. of the circuit.

As far as i know, the OC44 is a PNP.

btw, once i tried to build a neg gnd range with a PNP tranny, i could never get the voltages quite right...

So i switched to pos gnd (as it should be) and it worked fine!

It is supposed to be working like the way you are trying to do it, but...  (at least my experience has it the other way)

  ...ok...PNP Transistor...
Unless you know what's up better than me or..
Use a POS GND schematic with a PNP for a nice *Working Rangemaster.

if you're replying to my post, i don't think i'm an expert or something and of course i don't play smart ass:icon_eek:

I'm just posting my experience on the rangemaster.
