The Gain pot on my Ruby is having no effect.  Any idea on what component to look at for issues.  The transistor is getting ~9v.  The other pins are at 0 and a bit over 1v.

Just to check:

- You are using a 1k linear pot (B1K)
- lugs 2 and 3 of the pot are connected together.
- lug 3 goes to pin 1
- lug 1 goes to pin 8

You can add a 10nf cap in series between lug 1 and pin 8 to smooth things out just a bit, but I don't think that's your problem.

10uF is the typical value used there.

Looks like persistance paid off.  It was an open connection issue.  I did myself a dis-service by trying to cram everything into an Altoids box.  Someone else did it and I thougt it was a novel idea.  I'll post pictures when I'm done.

Thanks, you're right and it's right there in the datasheet! Grr.... I'll update my schematic.

Hey, and thanks again for all the great projects, circuits and reading material on your site.
