Hey guys. My latest venture was to mod a brand new big muff i got as a gift today. stock it sounded ok but i wasn't satisfied. I changed all the 1uf caps to .1uf and that was a great improvement. I also hanged the diodes to 1N4148's wick was also a big improvement. I messed around with the tone stack for a while and wuld up setteling for a "Russian Green" type big muff sound. My question is are there any resistor mods hat would improve or (change) the tone in the pedal. Also, i wanted to change the transistors in it aswell. Could i put some BC108's in there that measure in the 300ish range or I also have some BC109C's that measure in the 700ish range i believe. Arethese type of transistos useable in ths pedal? Thanks

  That's a lots'a Mods Bernardduur...
Nice page, thanks for the link !!!
Now I whip out my Big BMP [lotsa room for 'extra innards'] and put a mod or three to it !!!
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

here's an alternate tonestack i came up with for the big muff...works great on other fuzzes as well....

Thanks!

Make sure to try out the feedback mod; add a LDR to control the feedbacked signal and you can make your BMP sound like an perfect octave down or a ring mod

hanks alot guys! ;D Bernardduur that page is awsome. Just a quick question though. I have the tonepad layouts for there Big Muff versions, an all the resistor values for all three pedals ar different. Is it possible to change all the resistor values to a particular model?

AC30Dirty

One more thing. how about the transistors. Would these work? Do all four have to be close in value? (not to experienced with transistors YET)

AC30Dirty

Hey Bernardduur? Under the tone stack section on the page you sent me does C1 and C2 refer to C9 and C8 on the actual pedal? and do R1 and R2 refer to R8 and R5 or R8 and R25?

AC30Dirty

My last question was DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!! I figured it out. DISREGARD!!!!!!

I don't get your question.....

On the Tonepad site three models are layed out; you have to pick a favourite and alter the values of yours to theirs.

As for the transistors, I've tried a lot of them and always went back to my favourites
Or 5088's for that great BMP tone (just 4 5088's)
Or BC141's for a better, more bass heavy tone

Cool Bernardduur! Thanks for all the help. Now the tweaking begins! :icon_twisted: I'll let everybody know how it goes.

What do the resistors in the tone stack mods have to do with the circuit? Will they add different mid responses in conjunction with the caps?

Bernardduur

Yep. The tone section is a high pass and a low pass filter made of caps and resistors.

Check my page for the frequency response of the different tonestacks

well guys i finished up the big muff. I wound up going with a .0039uf and .01uf caps and 22K and 18K for the resistor values on the tone stack mods. There isnt a harsh high on the whole rotation of the pedal. Thanks everybody for all the advice. ;D
