please, im having a tough time looking this up, any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

The first entry in a google search for "2sc828 datasheet turns up a listing at datasheets.org.uk, and that leads to the original datasheets.

"R" is the medium gain suffix, hfe = 180 - 360. It's an NPN BJT, Vceo = 30, Ic = 100ma, and Ptot = 150mW. If you are using it for a voltage amplifier, the 2N5088 will do fine. If you are using it up above about 30ma, use a 2N3904. Both suggested alternates have different pinouts than the original.

thanks a bunch!

I guess that R suffix is what killed me.

How about the NTE229? Im not sure why I ordered these.

weren't the 2SC828's used in the original uni-vibes?

btw, my FD-II has these transistors, too.

The 828 was in the original univibe. I've tried A-B testing these in that circuit, and I can't find any difference.

in some places those are common transistors, i used to have a bunch, that used in "special" clones, etc. just stick to a good 2n3904, such as phillips or motorola, or to a bc549, b or c, depending on the gain you need. in this part of the world, for example, i can't get the 2n5088, or similar, but the bc family is easy to find, and in some cases sounds better, low noise, nice gain, nice breakup, etc.

2N5088, but look at the pin-out - you might have to mount them with the pins swizzled as with some Japanese transistor conversions
