I have searched but have only seen a few threads and one recommendation of putting in a pull-down resistor (1M?) to ground just after the input.  However, no one followed up saying that this was the absolute solution to the problem or that it worked based on their experience.  Is this a common solution?

Second, any chance a grounded circuit input would solve the problem?

I've built 2 PT-80's.  Both pop VERY LOUD the FIRST time you turn them on.  After that they are fine.

If it still pops after that you need to try and find the problem.  Do you use an LED?  Try disconnecting it and see if it still pops?

As far as the pull-down resistor, it works sometimes :).  Good luck!
