At a reasonable price, smallbear only has spdt momentary.

So you need SPDT toggle footswitches ? Both Digikey and Mouser carry Carling switches of that type.

Why not use a DPDT? They cost the same... just wire up one half and leave the other half unused (or use it to add a led indicator)
It's supposed to sound that way.

I second that.  Equally important as price, SPDTs will not take up any less chassis space.  Although some of those older Carling SPDT switches, while they may not occupy more space in terms of square inches, have a long and slender profile/footprint, rather than square.  I can see where that might be useful in some instances.  If it is the square footprint you want, though, I don't think there is much difference.  I also don't thing that any SPDT could have a smaller footprint than the DPDT Alpha switches that Small Bear sells (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=23).
