Big Muff time for me .....overload of choice!

The Big Muff.... I've avoided it until now.

There are just so many damned options. I think thats half the reason I have kept shuffling it back.

Well, It's going to be on vero, I think I'm going to go with the Triangle version and an op amp one. Who can stop with one muff eh?

Well, looking through previous posts, some have reported mixed results with the Torchy layout...one poster noted an extra resistor (next to R13) and another mentioned he couldn't quite find the sustain with that particular build. Whether that came down to issues with the layout or the poster's personal build is not clear.

I'd love to hear people's results with the muff on vero. Has anyone built stock from Torchy's layout and had a chance to A/B it with the same thing on PCB?

And....does an op amp version exist on Vero? If not, I'm happy to do one. Do we have a final schem for this?
Nelson seems to have had some excellent results from this but I didn't find the schem he worked from...

All input welcome.

Yes I know it's an old subject... and lots of respect to Torchy  :)

I would breadboard it first. Then try all the different mods/versions and find the combination you like the best. It's a complex circuit for a fuzz, not one I would want to be dissatisified with when I'm finished.

I did my own vero layout for the Big Muff, it works fine. If you're interested it's in this thread
I built the green russian version with it, but you can use it for all the transistor versions.
I assume the extra resistor mentioned is the one from the base of Q3 to ground (R14 on my layout) some Muff variants have this some don't. Leaving it out is supposed to change the sound, check out the modifications mentioned on ggg

Yeah, I've had a look at those. Didn't pick up on the base to ground resistor though.
The Torchy layout has an extra resistor from emmiter to ground of Q3 ... I'm sure it's an error though.

Nice layout>>> ;D

Liked my "Triangle" at first, but thought it was too "tame" after a while.
Built another with half 1uf's and half 0.1uf's and thought this was great !
The fully loaded with all 1uf version just has too much low "mud" for me.
If you can, socket all those caps and experiment , this seemed to be the largest
change on the circuit to me.
Also try using various trannies , all 5088/5089 and BC549's etc

I tried that on the breadboard and it sounded like Kreiger on "Hello, I love you..." to me. Not my cup of tea...

I should have experiemented with it more and tried the .1u's. It was a long time ago. I'll try it again sometime.

Yeah...seems socketing all the 0.1/1 uf caps is going to have to happen.

Any info on the op amp version...guess no-ones done a vero then?
