would it be possible to use a piezo instead of a horn driver for a talkbox? i don't know some things about piezos like how much power can they handle and how does a normal guitar sound come out of a piezo. i guess it would sound pretty lo-fi but thats ok with me.

the way i came to this idea was by taking apart a little toy. when you squeezed it it would play a little tune. but when i took the electronics and piezo out of the plastic housing it was very quiet. the piezo sounds different (and the loudness varies) when put upon different opbjects. the nice thing is that when i put it on thin metal objects. they resonate and the tune sound really raunchy and distorted with added harmonics. this would be one freaky guitar distortion.

point is that to get this distortion wich is not electronical but physical i would have to make a setup with a mic. kind of like a talk box. so maybe this could be a feature added in a talkbox.

Stick one pizo at one end of your 'thin metal object' (to resonate the surface) and another some distance away (to pick up the vibration) and you have plate reverb.  Narrow the distance and you probably just have the distortion you talked about.

Do you know of a good piezo to drive a plate reverb? The plate designs I've looked at use a special speaker coil that I found for sale from the original EMT guy, but it was more than I wanted to pay.

When I said 'plate', I was thinking more in terms of DIY biscuit-tin 'plate' reverb, in which case cheap piezos would be fine...in a lo-fi sort of way.

Gez that makes me think of a nice little gadget i have lying around, its a speaker but without a cone, you have to bolt it to a wall or table or something to get the sound.

piezos...i know a ton of sources and all about them as they are the triggers in my DIY E-Drums

mouser has some 35mm ones that you just solder some wires onto and are cheap...for something bigger try the 2" ones at allelectronics.com
