transistor equivalents?

hi all again, im wondering if i can use some transistoirs from some scavenged effect parts, the markins on them are c1815 with gr3k at the bottom. anybody know if these are useable in simple distortion circuits

General purpose npn.
Roughly the same as 2N3904.

thanks so much, i been searching on here and found that the legs on these are different to their equivalents ie bce and cbe, just finished the rangemaster with the reversed legs(tricky) and it works perfectly, im pumped now cheers!!
