any good resources for choosing woods and dimmensions?

There was a similar thread on this subject a while ago ...

There is a load of information and links on that thread .....
..... hope that helps

THe better the wood the better the cab?
 ...or
>  tight,  Void free wood is sufficient.
>  I want it lightweight and slightly resonatey.
>  *I want the cabinet to 'not' resonate AMA possible, weight doesn't matter.
*wood is less a part of the 'sound equation' in 'heavier const.' cabs.
Which of these statements would you say fits your cab criterion?
...Lightweight, like ~1/2'' plywood or other [*adjustable resonance], can be made so the cabinet itself resonates/influences tone/sounds. This is how I choose to build them, 'Best' wood warehouse type wood.
Heavier, like 3/4'' plywood, the wood becomes a smaller % of the 'sound equation' and will have very little resonance.
 Here's how I do it...
Starting with 1/2'' plywood OR ~1/2'' *antique pine, using a dado to recess the baffleboard into the sides/top/bottom [stop boards or other attachment procedure works]. I tried noback, back, and found partial backboard and/or 3''-4'' ports to be preferred.
*Antique pine was found [12' -16' L, 1'' D, *12'' W], planed to about >1/2'', the soundboard of course was *two pieces...cupping didn't diminish much W/planer, mashing the cuping down into the blade >during dadoeing< made square fit of sides to Top/Bottom.
note that my brother lost alotta bone/last knuckle from his LEFT HAND fingertips [mostly on digits 3 'n 4] when operating a table router, I think a DADO would took more, faster and shredded the pieces...the cat plays guitar amazing again...but...whewie !!! be warned..
Starting with 1/2'' plywood and following my patented resonance adjustment technique...
add? substrates of wood to the 1/2'' to decrease resonance, starting with the longest spans...basically you might want to add a 'board' across the top, and bottom if it's to be suspended in air..a little dab'll take the resonance down a notch, I used ~1/4'' x ~2'' x ~2'' less than the cab width.
unless you like high amplitudes w/heavy bass, 1/2'' wood should do ya.
 almost forgot size/shape.
...here I'll ramble on about what I did...
 2x12'' cabinet...
I first took dimensions of the back seat/trunk of my car, plenty of room for wayy oversized 2x12 cab.
I like a tall soundboard, and added 3'' to each dimension around the 2x12''s, also a space between them, drawing an 'XX' from corners on the soundboard to mark speaker centers. I like deep too so I went 15'', the sound board recessed 1.5''. Enclosure volume matters, really small cuts bass, big in bass resonance at med volume size, at some point, size increases increase bass very little. Shape can matter, but generally speaking it's influence on the bass matters less than size...too long of a span of thinner wood may cause 'overresonances'...
I feel if you're goint to build it, make it the way you want it, for me that is with resonance, a bit larger than a 'regular'...not as large as a Fender 4x12'' cabinet with a Fender 2x12'' baffleboard [oversized 2x12'' cab...very nice]...'special' wood used probably needed to replicate that one...I'd go with the 1/2'' wood, with side view more of a square than a Fender 4x12'' rectangle...rectangular backboard made from 'standard best' 1/2'' plywood will probably over-resonate.
Marine plywood...expensive...may be available as Fender or Jensen used to use, 3/8''  -  1/2'',  7 - 13 ply-wood, very very nice stuff...never messed with building from it.
1/2'' best' plywood works great, my 2x12'' is made from this, has some damping 'bubble cloth' packing sheet stapled to the sides and back.
Antique pine 2x12'' cabinet has like an 'accoustic guitar body' element to it's resonance...for 'room ambience' sound.
So...sorta 'normal' shape...other than that shape makes nominal difference...
Size...go ~oversize [13''-15'' x ~18'' x ~30''] for extending and exciting the bass note definition, mainly just a bit oversized like that is what I find works great, unless you want 'tight' and reduced bass influence from the cab.
3/4'' wood sounds 'harder' to me, little resonance.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Pete Moore's suggestions where right on.

(Particularly measuring your vehicle size!  And not just the interior - the door!  I have a 4x12 cab I made that fits in my car, but only after some fancy manuevering to squeeze it into the door.)

I went here:   http://colomar.com/Shavano/construction.html

When I was building cabinets.  Found most everything I needed there.  (I had almost *no* clue what I was doing, although I had had some minor woodworking experience.  This was years ago.  I still love those cabs I've built more than anything.)

i just want a closed back 2x10 as i want a multi speaker'd cab that is easy to move around, and i don't think 4 speakers is really necessary for me, i refuse to pay over £200 ($360) for one. I bought a jtm 410 (4x10)for that much , and then realised what a mistake i'd made...

Basically what i'm looking for is some sort of website to help calculate resonances of certain cuboid type shapes.

The pine sounds good. An acoustic quality would definetly be desirable. I'm planning to load it with a couple of eminence lil buddy or delta demons, which both have quite dark characteristics. To keep the sound a bit more even i'd like to keep the resonance of the cab quite tight in the bass end, but not so tight as to completely negate the sound of the speakers...

Also, i'm going to need to find some sort of help/websites in mounting the speakers, as this is comepltely new to me.

I may also want to add a thin door on the speaker side to address the diffusion of higher frequencies, any advice about this?
