Hi all,
I finally just finished my mongoose/spitfire and what should I say... this is one little sucker!

At first, the schematics around (Mongoose V1.1 and Spitfire V1.0) are totally correct.

I know that there had been some difficulties with some builds in the past,
I also had some problems with my LM308 it didn't worked and turned really hot and the collector voltage only measured 0,22V.

Then I replaced the IC with a TL061 (without the 22pF compensation cap) the collector voltage measured exact 4,5V and the sound was incredible!

With the gain reduced to minimum in spitfire mode it is a really dynamic overdrive and with the gain turned up in Mongoose mode there is this really nice half cooked wah sound.

peace, love and bananas

need sound samples here!!

im thinking about adding the Spitfire to my Mongoose clone. :icon_twisted:

Waht do you mean by "spitfire mode" and "mongoose mode" ... afaik these are two separate pedals. Have you combined them and is there a schematic for this ?

True, but on top of the page is a link to the schematic

@Torchy
Truth, Roger Mayer builds two Pedals but they are not so different.
I just a 3P2T switch to change between the 3 different cap values, the rest of the two pedals is the same.
So I have one versatile pedal instead of two two knob pedals, for me this is a win win situation coz I think I would never use both pedals at the same time.

You could even use tree 1P2T switches to switch between the different values one by one for even more shades between the two pedals.

@searoad
sorry I don't have the equipment here to make some samples but if you do got the Mongoose change the three caps and see/here for yourselfe if you like the spitfire. Myself

I just played a with the pedal again today and found some really nice Hendrix sounds with a strat in the Spitfire and on the other extreme of the Mongoose some really convincing QOTSA sounds.

rock on

I already had both schematics and had noticed the cap differences, been away so hadnt seen anyone combine the two. Thanks !

thanks for sharing the information!
so u only moded the 3 cap values?
i thought the different cap values just change the frequency response? (or even the gain factor??)
this interested me coz i can only get a very very fat boost as i set mongoose at low gain.
imo the overdrive range sounds horrible....(but who need it to be a sweet overdrive?)
i will give it a shot! :D
