I'm sure everyone remembers my "Fish Food Ruby." I packaged a standard Ruby Mini-Amp in a cyllindrical TetraMin Fish Food container with a speaker in the lid, and one in the bottom. I posted pics awhile back.

While my brother has asked me to make a clone of my original "Fish Food Amp" for him, a friend of mine in the Navy asked me to build him an amp he could take with him when he goes out on WestPac, and other sea-bound adventures. He preferred something that both used headphones and something very compact. Here is what ensued...

On the left is the original "Fish Food Ruby" and on the right is the new, the improved, "Mini Fish Food Ruby!" Also in case anyone cares, they're sitting atop a 25 year old Carvin SX100. (5 years older than me!)  :P

I used a smaller PCB layout and built the circuit as per the "Bassman Mod" from ROG. Unlike the original it has no built in speakers, however it still sounds great through my Celestion Rocket 50 and through even the cheapest of airline headphones.  ;D

SOUNDS AWESOME, LOOKS AWESOME. Anyone else likey?

Man, that is cool. Where do you put the battery.

First off thanks!

The battery is in there along with the pots, jacks, switch & speakers (on the bigger one), and the PCB. It was a lot tougher to fit the smaller one together so I had to make extra sure that everything was functioning reliably to avoid taking it apart and reassambling it 20 times.

As for the literal battery location, you can see where the knob(s) stick out of the one side right? Well the PCB runs down the center of the cyllinder and on one side is the pot(s) and on the other side of the PCB is the battery. I'll try to take some gut shots to show better but my digital camera doesnt do well up close.

So, uh, if you were to leave your amp with the fish over the weekend, would they just keep playing and playing and playing until the battery died? :icon_wink:

If we were to put yours, mine (http://hammer.ampage.org/files/T-tone.jpg), and one of those Altoids amps together in one room, you could have a band practice AND a meal! :icon_lol:

Is that a Carvin X100 in the picture? I have an X60.

So, is your amp going to swim with the fishies?  :icon_wink:

That's very creative.  :icon_cool:

Nice Tea-box, Mark!

Stephen - Thats a Carvin SX100 from around 1980. 100 watts SS, 1x12" speaker. (Celestion Rocket 50)

Paul, I really hope this amp doesn't go trying on any cement boots because it was a pain in the rear to get it all in that container in the first place. Imagine if I had to remove it for repairs!
