I know what you mean when you talk about the "cheapest" NP caps you could find.

When I checked for some NP caps at the same time I checked for transformers, they had NP 100uF caps at $7.50 each...  :o

I had to go down to around 10uF and below for a more acceptable price. And they didn't have anymore of these. So I will wait for them.

Just a little update. I tried my first circuit using a discrete buffer and a 42TM08 transformer and the signal is too strong for a Mic input. It would have to be padded down after the transformer as I saw in a schematic. But it works except for a lack of bass, but I'll have to check that with an oscilloscope.

Another option is to use the Hammond 10K:600 CT I bought. That's what I'll do this week. I'll wire another discrete buffer and use that transformer. The reason is that a discrete buffer is my first choice... I'll work on the opamp version later.

I checked the output with a scope, and not only is the signal too strong, but it is also very unbalanced, something like 3 times stronger on one side of the line.

So I think now that the way to go will be with the opamps for a balanced signal, with or without transformer.

Back to drawing board...
