Do you remember the Sweet Thing?

While I was searching my notes and my links to check what mods I could add to the Fat Boostered for an up-to-date version, I remembered the other Mini-Booster based circuits of the past. I noticed that Doug cleaned the schematic for a 2006 version on his site.

I thought it would be another nice sounding circuit from the past that should be mentioned.

I will try to find the pcb I built back in those years. Btw, if you want to try a new old circuit, try this one too. It is also good.

I've been looking at this one from time to time as well.
Looks interesting doesn't it?!

Gilles C

It would be a good follow-up from the Fat Boostered and a good complement. More gain, etc...

Is this a link in the evolution of the BSIAB?

Gilles C

You got it.

This description "BSIAB (Brown Sound In A Box) Fantastic sounding variation of the Booster 2.5/Sweet Thing! "  from the schematic page says it all...

You can go from smooth to wild with these variations. The choice is yours.

Oh, and I forgot.

I even have a PNP Blue for it somewhere in my things if my memory is good. And if so, I won't use it...

Just make sure you resolve the differences between R.G.'s artwork and the "2006" schematic. They should be minor.

Good point...

I didn't think of that because I will use use my own stripboard layout. But I suggested the pcb layout from GEO for those who wanted to etch a pcb. So an updated pcb layout for the 2006 Sweet Thing will be needed...

Btw, I didn't find any soundclips of the Sweet Thing. Is there any somewhere?

Wow --I need to check my old scheme --didn't that thing have a dual gain -pot?
This wasn't one of my favorites (I used the box for something else) but I can't remember why  :icon_neutral:

Yup! I didn't realize at the time the problem was I needed a log pot for the correct taper. Somehow that completely escaped me. Doh! I also removed some unnecessary garbage around the tone stack and source follower. You live & learn...

I've still got the board in the junk drawer. I may try it again sometime and see if I still like it.

Thought so. Found this picture --I shoehorned it into a small Hammond box, hahaha:

Seems I remember that these two stage minibooster had a squel problem..

Hence the inversion fet on the BSIAB ...How does this measure up to problems with squel and switch squel!!  DPDT????

Absolutely! An earlier version was the first pedal I built. I was excited after hearing the clips, and blown away once I got the pedal working! The tone control gives really good control over the mids.

Us young headbangers still like the Sweet 16.  It ran on 2 - 9V batteries and had a cool notch filter.
