so i never got the vero board version to work, and decided to take some advice given on hear and do it on perf board.  so i figured why not build one with the mid scoop mod.  so i put it together 3 times still no go.

i checked the voltages on the transistors and i had to change the biasing resistor to 1k to get it anywhere near 6.6v on the collector, still no go.

so i busted out the signal tracer (handy tool that is) and the signal BARELY goes past the 1meg pulldown and is inaudible past the .047u cap.

i built it off of this using 2n5089's:

im going to bed soon so i had to stop.

I presume 6.6v is the recommended bias for one of the two transistors?
  I guess your'e describing q1 or q2...?
And guess the 'bias' resistor is on one of the collectors..
That puts the original resistor value somewhere in the realm of 47k - 2m2...so at the very least the difference is 50x, I would begin to suspect some other bias issue if a bias R 'needed' to become around 2 or 3x value stated on a verified schematic.
I don't know how to notate 'divide' but a bias resistor value requiring a 3x +/- difference would lead me to think changing it's value might not be the solution.
Pleas excuse if my reading is wrong...I don't read layouts as easily as schematics.

yes, i read on GGG that the bias was supposed to be 6.6 on the collector for Q1.

the sound doesnt seem to be getting past the first capacitor.  the solder joints are good as far as i can tell.

Look for a short between C2/R3 at the tranny side, it would mean that all your signal is pulled
to ground, thus not getting past C2 .... or C2 is just a "D.O.A" cap ?

MM.

BTW My first FY didn't work at all, it was just a "cold" solder joint around Q2 !
I found it months later ....
