hello all,

nice to be back again.. beeen a year or so, since my last post.... uhmmmm Im kinda making into funny sounding effects lately, and I heard about uglyface clip... man!! that was cool.. I was quite wondering if I could use a normal LM555 in place of the Cmos 555.... if so, what could be the difference between the two chips???

and another, VACTROL is imposible to find here.... I have read and read about vactrol datasheet but I cant see WHAT "color" the LED lights??? is it RED or GREEN or infra???

thanks for any ifo.... :D

rx5,

Sorry for the late post, but I dug this up while looking for some Uglyface info myself.  The LED is most likely yellow.  They have a light wavelength that best suits the LDRs.  I found this info while searching for optical compressors.

I hope this helps.

I'd not substitute the CMOS 555.

I don't know what color LED Vacrtol brand optoisolators use, but I have rolled my own and simply use the generic and cheap ultrabright red ones.

rx5, check out the Home Wrecker article on the Ugly Face  http://home-wrecker.com./uglyface.html It tells about how to make up the vactrol out of a 5mm red LED, and a Radio Shack photocell. That's how I made mine, and it worked great. Radio Shack carries the CMOS timer TLC555, and the LM386 amp chip, if you live near one.
