The Peppermill has been around for awhile now and doesn't look as though it'll be going away anytime soon!

Maybe someone can  give me some voltage readings because my Peppermill didn't sound great at all, sounded more like a saltcellar .
Must have done something wrong  !!
There was hardly any grit .
I always try my fx boxes plugged into a tubeamp.

Thanks beforehand,

I recently breadboarded it.

My voltages:

Vdd = 9.2V

Q1.D = 5.7V
Q1.G = 2.83V
Q1.S = 0.73V

The voltages on Q2 depend on trimpot adjustments, also I used a slightly modified ckt for Q2 because I didn't use a J201 (I should post this mod).  With a J201 the Q2 voltage should be something like:
Q2.D = 4.5V
Q2.G = 0V
Q2.S = ~0.23V

I modifed my first stage for a bit more gain/dirt: Source resistor 680R, drain resistor either 4.7k or 5.6k.  Arguably the 22nF should be increased to 30nF with this mod.  Without the mod it rides between  clean boost and some dirt.  With the mod it hangs in the dirt a bit more.  It sounded pretty good.

Check this thread for some samples
http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=49273.0

There are also mods samples

about voltage readings...
I can't check them now, but if I can remember right, they're very similar to george's.

Ucho

sorry, double post... how to delete it?

alfafalfa

Hi Ucho,

Only the clean sample works , the rest doesn't because the page has expired , so it says.
Could you put them back up please.
My Peppermill works but I want to check the results.
Thanks George for the voltages , I forgot they were on the ROG site too.
It appeared I had put a wrong value cap before the volume pot , it was ten times as large as it should have been !! I know a classic mistake.
It sounds okay but what I would like is a smoother transistion into distortion. Is it possible without using a real tube ??
I'm going to swop Jfet 201 and see what this gives.
