problem with axis face build...

Eazy,

I'm in the middle of my first attempt at building a stompbox - teh axis face silicon (http://fuzzcentral.tripod.com/axisfacesi.html).

I've made a PCB, mounted loads of sockets and stuff, pluged in all the components (soldered them into the sockets as they wouldn't stay in place...), connected up the switch, battery lead, pots and jacks, pluged in a battery and kazaam! Nothing happens. The LED doesn't light up or anything. I've tried my transistors in every possible combination of pinouts and orientations, no luck, the battery is definantly working.

When plugged into a guitar/amp, the amp just makes a reasonably loud huming sound, and whenever I touch the guitar strings the hum stops, until I take my fingers off of them again - no sound with the switch toggeled on or off.

I think it might be the way I've wired up the swtich/jacks/power, as I couldn't find a diagram of how to do this anywhere that made sense, but I'm not sure.

whats up im also building my first box  the from fuzzcentral my pedal works but it sound likes crap i think its transistor bias problem, but anyways ill show you how i have  my crap layed out. maybe this will help you.

*The Switch,
lug 1 is to effect input.
lug 2 is from input jack tip.
lug 4 is to effect output (lug 2 on the volume pot).
lug 5 is to output jack tip.
lugs 3&6 are shorted together.

*The Pcb
#1 to lug 1 of switch
#2 has 4 grounds going to it lugs1 of volume and fuzz pot, and the sleeves of the input and output jacks
#3 fuzz pot lug 2
#4 is -9v lead from battery
#5 fizzpot lug 3
#6 volume pot lug 3

*Input jack
the tip goes to switch lug 4 (effect input).
the ring goes to the pos. batery lead.
the sleeve goes to ground.

*Output jack
the tip comes from lug 5 of the switch.
the sleeve goes to ground.

AdamB - first thing - take all unecessary components out of the signal path. That means get rid of the switch and the LED. You don't need them for the circuit to work and that's just a few more things that can go wrong.

Why wouldn't the components stay in the sockets? That's odd.

Do a continuity check on your circuit board. Are you absolutely sure the board is correct and all the traces are connected?
