So, it has only been a little over a year since finding out that (for some) the Ross is the compressor's "holy grail", and now I actually have one. Whooo Hooo! Thanks to RG and JD

A side note is this:
Some time ago, while watching a movie on TV, I heard a guitar playing. The sound was clean but there was a hint of growl. It did not really sound like distortion, and the sound was very continuous and constant.
I figured, maybe it's some amp I'll never own. I could have put in a post here like "which effects are good for soft clipping?" or ". . . which clip just a little bit?"   The result would have probably been a (helpful, but huge) list of circuits that I would never have the time to build.

Anyway . . .
The Ross has got to be this special sound I was looking for. As soon as I played through it, I was 90% sure. Then I started wondering: "Hm. Compressors aren't supposed to distort, are they? I thought the Orange Squeezer was supposed to be the dirty one."
A few searches later, I had the reassurance that I needed.  And, I located the info on easy mods.

I used GGG's pcb.  If anyone is considering using them just make sure you've got a teeny bit on hand to drill out the holes for thick leads.

I used the .001uf cap across R20 for more treble, and increased the output cap to .1uf for more bass (7 string).  The "Hammer mod" for switching recovery times adds flexibility and isn't too hard to put together.

I'm thinking about making the output cap switchable as well. That way I could have: stock, more bass, and maybe try a bass limiting cap. With the small cap and the comp in 'fast' mode it would act as a type of 'POP-y' treble booster.
*Any comments on this notion?*

Ps: on this build I used the anti spin tabs on the pots and switch. It's just a few more steps in a series of hundreds. It is satisfying to be able to tighten stuff up without things moving around.     When I was done I looked at the holes and thought "Oh yeah, beer." - Maybe that's why most just cut the tabs off. Oh well.

And, how come every time I try to get a build together, so I can go out to the garage and make some noise, I get finished just late enough to not be able to go out and make noise? Argh.

Nice... glad it went well.  I'm starting my Ross tomorrow.   ;)

Why not...might prove useful ! Even if you don't use the 'other available settings' much beyond sampling them...[I'm mostly using the same guitar and Comp settings], would be nice to have on there for a unique Fuzz or for bass use etc.

They put them on there for a reason or two...I've never used them...I sometimes have to play 'stash the potlugs in the corner' at the last minute.
