Hello,
I've finnished ross comp build but it doesn't work like expected. With higher sustain settings it sound very fuzzy and I dont think it has much output (at max level it's not louder than dry signal, about the same). I used vero layout floating around with MH and RG mods included. I didn't have five 2N5088's so I used two of them and three 2N5089 (you'll se below which one is put where). IC is metal can CA3080A. Trimmer is 2.5K instead of 2K. I'm not sure about IC orientation because I've read here that small tab points at pin 8. It can't be true, cause I can place it point at pin 1 or pin 5 only (180 degree rotation). Can someone clarify that to me please. When I put it on pin 5 I don't get any output at all.
Here are voltages.

Q1 2N5089
E: 1.9
B: 1.4
C: 7.2
Q2 2N5089
E: 2
B: 2.14
C: 9.1
Q3 2N5088
E: 0
B: 0
C: 9.1
Q4 2N5088
E: 0
B: 0
C: 9.1
Q5 2N5089
E: 8.6
B: 9.1
C: 9.2
IC
1: 0
2: 9.2
3: 2.1
4: 0
5: 0
6: 3.5
7: 3.5
8: 0

Thanks in advance,
Branislav

One more thing, all 1uF caps are tantal instead of electros. I tried now swapping 2N5089 with two 2N3904 and one BC549B but it's about the same. On clean amp with sustain above 30% I et some ugly fuzzy overdrive which increases with sustain pot. Please help  :icon_neutral:

Q1: The Base is below the Emitter by 0.5v. According to the debug page, something is wrong.
Q2: Base is only 0.14v higher - it'll hardly conduct.
Q3: Base=Emitter - they both look tied to ground.
Q4: Same as Q3. I'm looking at the GEO schematic (is that the one you're using?) and the Collectors of Q2 &3 are tied to Base of Q4 - something is amiss.
Q5: Base (and Emitter) seem a bit high, doesn't it? Esp when its fed only by Vb (and out of IC1)
IC1:

Going by RG's schematic here, DIL8, not can, so...

pins 2 & 3, (in - and +) seem odd - they should be clsoe to each other. 2 should definately not be at supply voltage
pin 4 is fine
pin 7 should be at supply, not 3.5
pin 6 is out put, with Vb, so is 3.5 is half (+ resistor), then that's right.
pin 5, is amplifier bias input, so at 0v, it looks loooowww.

Hope that is all correct. Is that right guys?

thanks for reply!
I don't think that IC package changes anything. This is the same as CA3080E just with wider temperature range. I guess that pinouts are the same. I got new trannies, five 2n3904, but it still sounds more or less the same, cound't find any wrong component nor solder bridge. Damn  :icon_frown:

Is the IC installed with the correct pinout?
I think I read a post about this here sometime ago.
It turned out the CA3080 was in wrong.
Double check maybe  ???

Finally fixed  :icon_mrgreen:
it was wiring problem on two components. It works fine now, get little noise on max sustain but it will probably decrease when placed inside enclosure. My father helped me make beautiful wooden enclosure and it has laser engraved crocodile graphics on top...totally unique and cool. I named it CrocComp (little tribute to Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter). As soon as enclosure is done with clear coating I'll open new thread with pics and clips...
Thanks for help

Sounds cool bancika!
Good news
Post a pic when done please.
