Orange Squeezer Input

I have an orange squeezer I built that I have a question about.

I really love it on most of my guitars, especially the fenders, it can give them a little extra output kick, and really helps the quiet stuff shine through.

However, I have found that on my Les Paul and SG, they really overdrive the input a lot, so the resulting compression is really distorted and muddy.

Now I know this is normal for this type of beast, my question is, can I adjust anything to give me some additional head room?

I am already running at 18v.

Thanks!

One idea would be to increase the value of the input resistor.

It should have plenty of headroom at 18v.
I run mine at 9v, and the NE5532 cured the headroom problem I had W/HB's.
IIRC the OS seems to compress and work, yet have a headroom problem if the Jfets arent' oriented properly.

Well I think the JFETs are right (I would like to think that by now I don't put them in backwards ;)

I think I am using a 4558, so I will try the 5532, I think I have one laying around at home.
